STANDING ALONE - OVER55 LONDON

North American has done very little in addressing employment issues of the aging worker. Recent public funding in the form of the U.S. Aging Worker Initiative (AWI) and the Canadian Targeted Initiative for Older Workers. Actual job creation and the professional delivery of aging services is limited or non existant. Publiic funding to date has been mostly in services to the job hunters such as - counselling, training, and adminsitrative assistance. Many of these services are duplication of broad based community services, and are dependent upon volunteers to deliver.

Billions of dollars of public money is starting to be targeted at the aging work force, with very evidence of jobs for the aging worker. In addition, community based, substainable efforts to support the aging population in their homes, is not on many agencies, plans. Those that do, provide a very limited range of aging services.
